Centre for Skin Sciences Is Launched at University of Bradford

The new Centre for Skin Sciences (CSS) held its official opening at an invitation only special launch event on 11th May 2010. This date coincided with the 25th Anniversary of the Bradford City FC Fire and the establishment of the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit, an important partner of the CSS.

allerganA VIP Dinner, hosted by the Centre's Director, Prof. Desmond J. Tobin, was held on the evening of the 10th May. It was attended by the Lord Mayor, The Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Bradford and both Drs Farjo were amongst several honored guests from USA, mainland Europe and across Britain representing Academia, the Healthcare Sector and the Pharmaceutical & Personal Care Sectors.

 The symposium celebrated 25 years of wound-healing research within the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit and the scientific achievements of skin and hair research groups from the Centre for Skin Sciences. Professor George Cotsarelis, Professor Angela Christiano and Professor Julia Newton Bishop gave excellent keynote lectures during the day, accompanied by talks given by the Principal Investigators from the CSS. At least two of the talks and a few poster presentations involved collaborative works with the Farjo Medical Centre.

The Centre for Skin Sciences is a leading centre of expertise in the skin and hair sciences working closely with the health and personal care sectors. Based at the University of Bradford, Yorkshire, UK, the Centre's internationally renowned scientists integrate basic science with applied research to gain a greater understanding of what is required for healthy skin and hair. Working with partners this will help turn this understanding into exciting opportunities for new technology and products.
